Four keys to overcoming writer’s block

by Robert Greenshields

Whether you’re a professional writer or just facing the challenge of creating an important email, you’ve probably faced the blank screen or blank paper blues at some stage.

Here top copywriter Carline Anglade-Cole shares some great tips on how to get your enthusiasm up for writing.

Though the tips are aimed especially at copywriters, most of the ideas work for everyone.

Her four keys are:

  1. Look in the mirror and ask yourself “What the heck am I talking about?”
Make sure you’ve taken the time to do the research. If not – get more time to complete your task so that you do the job properly!
  2. Take a Break
Get away from it for while. 24 hours if you can. Then come back refreshed.
  3. Surround yourself with people with energy
If you’re working at home and can’t actually get out to meet the people you’re working with, at least set up lunches or coffees with others to stop yourself getting stale.
  4. Keep learning
Don’t get into a rut doing the same thing over and over. Keep adding new areas of interest. Keep challenging yourself and become an expert in your field.
