Review of Andrew Cavanagh’s Offline Gold for Online Marketers

by Robert Greenshields

Copywriter Andrew Cavanagh recently made a post on the Internet Marketing Warriors Forum which suddenly sparked off quite a big response.

Like many good ideas, the one he shared seems obvious afterwards. But perhaps his idea is so simple that most people would not think about it.

Andrew shared the fact that he’d been in a local restaurant on New Years’ Day that, this time, was packed with customers – and the owners said they could have filled it twice based only on online bookings.

Only the previous year the restaurant had no Internet presence at all. Of course, the reason Andrew shared the story is that he had given the owner some advice on how to build his web presence.

Andrew’s post on the forum got a flood of responses and he realized he’d spotted a big opportunity for many people with some experience of online marketing to make good money giving the right advice to local businesses.

As a result of the interest it generated, he created a special report called Offline Gold for Online Marketers

The report provides a very straightforward plan for turning your knowledge of online marketing into something you can sell to local offline businesses. The demand for this type of advice is so great that it’s often easy to find people willing to pay thousands of dollars for it.

The report assumes a certain amount of knowledge about Internet marketing so it’s not a step-by-step guide on the advice you should be giving.

It assumes some knowledge of how to put up a basic website, search-engine optimization and the process for collecting email addresses.

Though he points out that even if you don’t know, it’s not hard to find out.

As it assumes this basic knowledge, the book concentrates more on the process of contacting local business owners and how to make them buy.

It’s easy to forget that some of the concepts that are common knowledge in the Internet marketing world are close to wildly revolutionary in the offline business world.

There is an opportunity for people who know something about online marketing to help local business owners and become their trusted adviser. He says: “show them where their website is sick, show them what the cure is and if they want the cure they pay you for administering it.”

For example, you could easily:

  • Charge a consultancy fee to local businesses for helping them get the best out of what they are doing.
  • Charge ongoing fees for building and managing a website (even if you outsource most of the work).

The key is that many businesses are either scared they are missing out on opportunities online or they have been burned setting up high-cost websites that deliver poor value.

There is huge demand for people who can talk knowledgeably on the subject and give good advice.

The report gives some tips on the sort of questions you should ask and how to negotiate the right fee. He says “don’t be afraid to charge high!”

As I mentioned, the report doesn’t tell you everything you need to know to provide the service. It assumes you have good existing knowledge that will probably be better than that of the average offline business owner.

As Andrew says in the report, it’s a waste of time buying it if you’re not going to use the information to build your business.

But it’s currently selling for less than $20 and even though some of the solutions may seem obvious, it’s well worth the investment if this seems like a relevant area for you.

It could be appropriate for coaches and consultants, say, who have some knowledge of online marketing. Equally it provides an avenue for people who work mainly online to build contacts locally and to make good money.

Though the report is well worth the low investment on its own, Andrew has some bonuses after you sign up that sweeten the pot even further.

If you think this approach could be relevant to you, it’s easily worth the low investment.
