The book slide:ology demonstrates how to create visual presentations that not only inform but inspire your audience.
Despite the hundreds of millions of dollars spent on slick marketing campaigns, many presentations are still ineffective and dull.
In the book and in her short video below, author and designer Nancy Duarte walks us through the steps toward creating a great presentation.
Slides, Duarte argues, have become a dumping ground for anything that can serve as a visual crutch to remind the presenter what to say rather than to help convey the message to the audience.
slide:ology shares proven ways to create a visual presentation that will capture and inspire your audience.
Here are four highlights
1. Define Your Audience
You need to understand your audience’s various needs, concerns, and fears, and then build trust and establish an emotional or logical connection with them.
2. Create Ideas
The best place to start is most likely not at the computer. A pencil and a sheet of paper will do just nicely. The initial goal is to generate lots of ideas.
3. Think Like a Designer
To succeed as a presenter, you must think like a designer and remove all the visual distraction from your slides.
4. Practice
Finally, practice your presentation until the interaction you have with your slides is seamless.
